Princess Diana made an extraordinary admission about her life to Barbra Streisand as she insisted the British royal family wanted to have her committed to a mental institution.

The late royal met the Funny Girl star at the premiere of 1992 film The Prince of the Tides where she made the startling confession. The inquest into the Princess’ death at London’s High Court heard that the singer asked Diana, “Are you happy?” And Princess Diana is reported to have replied, “My in-laws think I’m mad and my husband agrees with them and wants me put in a home”.

The inquest aims to establish whether the princess and Fayed were simply the victims of a tragic accident, or if they were the targets of an assassination plot headed by the British royal family – as claimed by Fayed’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed.

Meanwhile, a good friend of the late Princess Diana told a London inquest she claimed she still loved Prince Charles at the time of her death.

Robert Devorik, a close friend of Diana, said she was very upset when she learned Camilla Parker Bowles had become her former husband’s partner, according to a report. He also said that the princess was loyal to her husband, regardless of other romances, until the she died in a 1997 car crash in Paris.

He told the inquest Diana’s once told him: “I’ve been loved by white people, black people, gay people, Jewish people. The one man I really loved in my life has not loved me.”

Devorik told a story about a lunch gathering at his home at which Diana defended the Prince of Wales when a guest criticized him. He claimed that the princess said, “He is the father of my children and the future king of England, and if I have a difference with him that is my problem. Nobody should make a mockery of him.”

Princess Diana wanted her former husband Prince Charles to give up his right to the throne and let their son Prince William be king, her inquest heard on January 15.

Princess Diana had several meetings with her lawyer Maggie Rae just months before her death in 1997 during which she spoke about her hopes for her son Prince William, believing her former mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth would abdicate in April 1998.

During one meeting Maggie Rae’s boss Lord Mishcon took down minutes, which were handed to police and read out at London’s High Court yesterday.

The so called ‘Mishcon note’ read: “HRH (Diana) said in her view the happiest outcome of the monarchy was for the Prince of Wales to abdicate in favor of William.”

The late princess even arranged to meet Labor politician Tony Blair in January 1997, the future British Prime Minister, to discuss her plans.

Maggie Rae told the court, “She rang me to see if Tony Blair would like to meet her. He was keen and dinner was arranged at my home. Mr. Blair was in opposition at that time and was very frightened of it being known that he was meeting her.”

A handwritten letter in which Diana, Princess of Wales indicated that the Prince of Wales was plotting to kill her so he could marry Tiggy Legge-Bourke, the former nanny to Princes William and Harry, has been shown at the inquest into her death.

The note was sent to Paul Burrell, the princess’s then butler, in October 1993, 10 months after her separation from Prince Charles was announced, which you could see here.

She wrote, “I am sitting here at my desk today in October, longing for someone to hug me and encourage me to keep strong and hold my head high. This particular phase in my life is the most dangerous – my husband is planning ‘an accident’ in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for him to marry Tiggy. Camilla is nothing but a decoy, so we are all being used by the man in every sense of the word.”

The letter has been shown at the inquest at the Royal Courts of Justice in London to witnesses who have been challenged over their assertions that the princess did not fear for her safety.

Mohamed Fayed, the father of the princess’s boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, claimed that the couple were killed by MI6 on the orders of Prince Philip to prevent them marrying and having a Muslim baby.

Michael Mansfield, QC, representing Mr Fayed, has suggested to close friends of the princess that she had expressed fears for her safety, which they have denied.

During questioning on Tuesday, the letter was shown to Lucia Flecha da Lima, the wife of the former Brazilian ambassador to London and one of the princess’s closest confidantes. She revealed that the princess had never expressed fears for her safety, saying, “I still don’t believe in it. Paul Burrell was perfectly capable of imitating Princess Diana’s handwriting. I don’t believe she was fearing for her life, especially from Prince Charles, the future king of your country.”

The inquest has already been told that in October 1995 the princess told Lord Mishcon, her solicitor, that “reliable sources” had informed her of the prince’s plans “that she and Camilla would be put aside”.

A new book, which is about late Princess Diana, claims she married Prince Charles for his title. The book also claimed that Princess Diana lied about throwing herself down the stairs when she was pregnant.

Her friend, the New Yorker editor Tina Brown, has written the book, which coincides with the tenth anniversary of the princess’ death in a Paris, France car crash in August 1997.

Among other claims, Tina Brown alleges Princess Diana and Prince Charles had sex on the royal train before they married and Prince Charles only cheated on the princess after her eating disorders and hysteria became too much to endure.

Other friends of the Princess have denied the claims in the book, which will be released on June 12 in the US and UK.

Prince William had a split with his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton because Prince Charles pushed him to end his relationship with her unless he was prepared to marry her.

According to the report, Kate Middleton, 25, briefly visited her office in Kew, southwest London, a few days after the recent split with Prince William.

A colleague, Philip Higgs, 23, who was present on the occasion, revealed, “She had about 10 people asking if she was all right and I think she just lost her rag. She said ‘It’s because of his daddy’. Everyone raised their eyebrows but didn’t want to push her. Normally, Kate doesn’t talk about anything. She’s very quiet. But it was as if she’d reached boiling point from one sympathetic question too many.”

Kate Middleton has returned to work after having taken some time off following her split with Prince William.

A spokesman for the royal revealed that the Prince of Wales would not attend the concert marking 10 years since the death of his former wife, Princess Diana.

The concert on July 1 at London’s new Wembley Stadium will mark performances by Elton John, Status Quo, Rod Stewart, U.S. rapper Kanye West, James Morrison, Natasha Bedingfield and Lily Allen.

The spokesman of Prince Charles revealed, “The concert is really for the younger generation to enjoy.” The spokesman confirmed that neither Charles nor his second wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, would attend.

The spokesman added, “There will be a memorial service for Diana on August 31, which will be an event for all generations of the Windsors to come together.”

Prince Charles visited Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, in hospital after her operation. The Prince of Wales went to the hospital last Monday to visit his wife. His wife was admitted on Sunday evening for hysterectomy operation.

A spokesman for Clarence House reveals that the Duchess was “recovering well”. The Duchess of Cornwall, 59, is expected to stay in hospital for four days and she would recover at home for six weeks. The visitors include Laura Lopez, the daughter of the Duchess.
