He's an actor, and shouldn't be type-cast. It is his choice, there's nothing in his contracts to say he isn't allowed to do other things. You have to be much more talented to do things on Broadway anyway, there are no retakes, once is all you get. I give him Kudos on giving himself the capablity of doing better things. And everyone should support him in his tasks at making his future of an actor brighter. If that encludes being nude for a show or movie, then so be it, it's making him stronger and a better actor to be able to get up the courage to do it. Way to go Daniel!
