Princess Eugenie had a battle behind the scenes with her mother over her decision to go to Newcastle University.
Dubbed the ‘brainiest Royal’ after getting AAB grades at A-level, I’m told Eugenie, 19, was urged by the Duchess to consider a university higher up the league table such as St Andrews, where Prince William studied, or Bristol.
But Newcastle has the highest density of students from her public-school crowd. A source said: ‘Eugenie believes that uni is as much about the socializing as the studying.’
