According to a recent study conducted by Hootsuite on behalf of Newsweek, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are the most-discussed pair on TikTok, but the majority of the conversation is negative. According to Hootsuite’s social marketing specialist, most people are “extremely critical” of their relationship. People have been comparing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Prince William and Princess Kate, and they frequently choose sides as well. The comment area for royal family films is flooded with supporters and detractors of their every move. It included details from their behavior and fashion sense to their appearances and interactions. The study was collected on TikTok over thirty days. The amount of posts assigned to each royal subject was virtually equal, with 6,000 assigned to Prince William, Prince Harry, and Meghan, and 5,000 assigned to Princess Kate. However, Prince Harry received the most posts about him altogether, with 140,000, and the most views, with 13 billion, followed by Meghan, who had 115,000 posts and 11 billion views total. Princess Kate had 65,000 posts with 10 billion views, while Prince William had 79,000 posts with 11 billion views. The research examined common search phrases for each member of the royal family. Princess Kate’s search terms include “tennis,” “rude,” “paparazzi,” and “coronation,” while Meghan’s search terms include “divorce,” “Prince Harry,” “being rude,” “narcissistic,” and “awkward.” Data regarding Meghan shows that TikTok users are looking for unpleasant behavior. Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime show posted the two most-liked complimentary videos about Meghan on TikTok. Other videos on the list were clearly anti-Markle and were created by fans.
